In September, our Google Workspace Community hosted two insightful sessions with Stephen Hind and Liam Finnegan.

Stephen delivered live demos showing how to go beyond no-code in Workspace by combining AppSheet and Apps Script, automating Drive file handling, integrating with Gemini, and building tailored workflows.

Liam shared his organisation’s migration from a legacy telephony system to Google Voice, covering what worked, what didn’t, and how Voice now delivers the flexibility and visibility they need.

Both sessions sparked lively discussion, with members asking questions and working through solutions together, showing exactly what makes this community so valuable.

You can now generate custom meeting backgrounds with AI directly in Meet. Simply type a prompt, and Gemini creates a professional or creative backdrop, helping teams show up the way they want.

“Take Notes for Me” in Google Meet
Meeting organisers can now enable AI-powered summaries. After the session, a Google Doc is automatically created with notes, action items, and a recap linked to the calendar event, keeping everyone aligned without the admin work.

Smarter image editing with Nano Banana in Slides & Vids
Google has introduced its new AI image model, Nano Banana, allowing users to edit images with prompts (e.g. placing a product in a different location) while keeping everything else consistent.

Ransomware detection and file restoration in Google Drive (Beta)
Google Drive now detects ransomware activity, halts syncing, alerts users and admins, and restores files to a safe version. A strong step forward for data recovery in the face of rising cyber threats.

Improved app discovery in Google Chat
A new menu makes it easier to find and use Chat apps, streamlining how teams connect workflows and tools.
