Google Workspace Updates

Here’s the latest from Google Workspace!!!

Reducing Ambiguity in Meet & Calendar Artifacts Google is updating how Google Meet links to Calendar events to ensure meeting artifacts (recordings, notes, and chats) are shared only with the intended participants. By tying each video call to the initial Calendar event where it was created, Google is solving the "ambiguity" issues caused by reusing meeting codes across different events. This update prevents sensitive data leakage, ensuring artifacts are never shared with the wrong guests or lost entirely.

Enhanced Join Permission Logging for Google Meet Admins now have greater visibility into meeting access. Google Meet Audit event logging for endpoints has been updated to include the specific permission type used to grant access to join a meeting. For endpoints like meeting room hardware, logs will now detail which user granted access through delegated authentication, providing an extra layer of transparency for security and compliance audits.

New Admin Controls for Gemini Conversation Sharing Admins can now manage whether users in their organization can share their Gemini chat conversations via public links. Previously restricted to personal accounts, this feature is now available for Work/School accounts. Crucially, as an admin, you have the granular control to enable or disable this sharing capability, ensuring that sensitive organizational data remains within your specified governance boundaries.

Upcoming Stricter Classifications for Google Groups To bolster data security, Google is preparing to launch new internal and external membership classifications for Google Groups, starting in Q2 2026. This change is designed to create clearer boundaries for group data access, helping to prevent accidental exposure of sensitive information. Admins should start reviewing their Groups’ structures now to ensure readiness for these upcoming classification requirements.

Increased Gmail Attachment Limits for Enterprise Plus Google is supporting high-fidelity file sharing by increasing Gmail storage and delivery capabilities for Enterprise Plus customers. Both sending and receiving limits have been raised to 50MB. This enhancement is a significant boon for organizations that rely on frequent, large-file collaboration, allowing for a more seamless experience without needing to rely on external file-sharing workarounds.

Governance is the Gateway to Innovation! From tighter security logging to new AI governance controls, Google continues to add layers of complexity to the Workspace environment. While these updates provide powerful new capabilities, they also increase the administrative overhead required to maintain a secure posture. Patronum helps you cut through the noise by automating these lifecycle policies and access controls, ensuring that as you adopt new features, your security perimeter remains rock solid, not an afterthought.
